Your Distal Jet Appliance

Congratulations on starting your orthodontic journey with us at Prevention Orthodontics!

Dr. McCoy has chosen the Distal Jet appliance for you so that we can do the hardest work prior to the beginning of your full orthodontic treatment: your bite correction.

The Distal Jet appliance will fix your bite discrepancy comfortably and quickly (in six to eight months) with none of the common cooperation issues for patients and parents like asking a patient during full treatment to wear elastics full time, hoping that they will do it.

It’s easier if we do all of the work for you and guarantee a great result!

The Distal Jet appliance will do the hard work first so adults and children don’t have to remember to do anything other than brush their teeth and their Distal Jet appliance and avoid hard and sticky foods.

Since all the hard work is done first and done by us, in six to eight months we move on to your full orthodontic treatment consisting of night time aligners (leave them at home for work and school) or full braces.  Because you already have the difficult bite-correcting work completed, your full orthodontic treatment time will be shorter and we can guarantee that your bite will be corrected.

Follow-up appointments after we cement your Distal Jet appliance onto your teeth are about every six weeks.

Distal Jet appliance activation is a quick and comfortable appointment, as you can see in the video below:

With your Distal Jet appliance, you will have the most comfortable orthodontic experience possible and we will increase the predictability of your planned tooth movements because the Distal Jet appliance gently moves your upper back teeth backwards to correct your bite discrepancy.

If you ever have any questions or concerns during your treatment, just give us call or send us an email, and we will be happy to help you out.

Here are some other things to know about your Distal Jet appliance, and how to take care of it.

HYGIENE

Using your toothbrush, gently brush all the components of the Distal Jet, including the ones in your palate where you are not used to brushing.  A battery powered toothbrush may be helpful as long as you remember to slowly move it around and let it do the work for you.

Use interdental brushes such as Piksters to remove any food that you cannot remove with your tooth brush.  Remember to continue to clean in between your teeth with floss or Piksters.

DIET:

Diet can play a major role in the health of your oral cavity.  Foods high in sugar are the worst for teeth and can cause decay.  Bacteria in the mouth metabolize these sugars and during this process they produce acids that can cause demineralization of the enamel surfaces of the teeth.  Over time, this can cause cavities.

Please avoid any hard or sticky foods and candies because they can dislodge your Distal Jet appliance, resulting in discomfort and the need for an emergency appointment.

DISCOMFORT:

The Distal Jet appliance is very comfortable.  Any time teeth move, they can cause discomfort.  If you experience any discomfort, whatsoever, please contact us immediately and we can get you a magic wand that will eliminate your discomfort immediately.

Dr. McCoy is the only dentist and the only orthodontist in Chicago using the pain eliminating magic wand.  It’s amazing, so contact us right away.

Only the best for our patients!

Sincerely,

Dr. McCoy and staff
