Whitening Your Teeth

Congratulations on deciding to whiten your teeth!

You either have whitening trays or you will be using your aligner trays with the whitening gel.

You do need to know one thing when whitening your teeth if you are using clear aligners to align your teeth:

It is recommended to not use the Opalescense Whitening Gel during the first 2 days of a new aligner set to reduce the chance of sensitivity.

HOW DO I LOAD MY WHITENING GEL INTO MY ALIGNER OR TRAY?

  1. Load your aligner or tray by carefully expressing one continuous bead of gel inside the tray, approximately one-quarter to one third of the height, beginning from the floor of the tray on the cheek side of the tray for all teeth.

HOW DO I WEAR THE LOADED WHITENING ALIGNER OR TRAY?

  1. Insert the loaded tray in front of a mirror and watch for any gel displacement out of the tray. If gel displacement is occurring, you must carefully remove all excess gel from your gum tissue using a toothbrush or your gum tissue may become sensitive.
  2. Wear your Opalescence PF 10% Mint whitening gel 8-10 hours or overnight. Each syringe contains sufficient gel for approximately 3-4 days of treatment.
  3. At the completion of the 8-10 hours of treatment time, remove the tray, rinse and brush the gel from your teeth. Do not swallow rinsed gel.
  4. If you experience any tooth discomfort or tissue irritation when using your whitening gel, immediately discontinue its use and contact our office for further instruction. It would be helpful to have a photo if your gum tissues are irritated. If you carefully load your aligner or tray and if you carefully remove all excess gel from your gum tissue once you seat your tray, whitening your teeth us usually comfortable and trouble-free. You will love the results!
